Frank Frazetta has enjoyed a long career in the fantasy art field, and has provided inspiration for many of his successors, such as Boris Vallejo (Featured here) and Chris Achilleos. (Soon to be featured) To the casual eye, his work can sometimes be mistaken for Boris's paintings, but upon closer inspection, there is a more raw element to his work that conveys a sense of energy, power and dynamism. Frank Frazetta uses bold brush strokes and primitivistic styles to create this atmosphere, whereas Boris tends to hide his brush strokes wherever he can. Frank's artwork has graced many album and single covers, as well as film posters and book covers. Those of you who joined this place from the Queen forum will probably know that two of Frank's paintings were used for Queen single covers in Malta- I'll show you those, too!
![]() In this painting, you can see the obvious comparison to Boris's work here- note the boldness of the brush strokes, and the 'unfinished' look of the work around the horses' hooves- used to convey a sense of energy and movement. ![]() In this one, you can perhaps see the differences more easily. The image has a raw, almost sketchy or comic book quality about it, that shows wonderfully well the action and dynamism of this battle scene. For you Queen fans, here's the Maltese cover for Killer Queen, featuring the Frazetta painting 'Egyptian Princess'. And here is the Maltese Cover from 'Somebody to Love', featuring the Frazetta painting 'Tiger Woman'- sometimes referred to as 'The Sun Goddess'. Enjoy! -------------------- Butt-kicking for goodness!

I'm sorry, but the artwork doesn't really appeal to me. It looks too muddy and crude for my taste. I'm sorry.

So looks like I'll be reviving some of the oldish threads here.
I always loved Frazetta's work. A lot of them appeared on the front of the Conan the Barbarian series (large size comics). When I was a wee Shadow, I used to gaze at those hulking barbarians (Cohen in his youth, ya know) and scantiliy clad war maidens and wonder just how the artists could use the paint and such to create these images. Just amazing. Think osmosis works? |

Banging your head against things until some of it sinks into you brain? I used to try and do that with textbooks at school... -------------------- IT IS A MADE UP STORY. VERY STRANGE. ALL ONE NEEDS DO IS TURN TO THE LAST PAGE AND THE ANSWER IS THERE. WHAT, THEREFORE, IS THE POINT OF DELIBERATELY NOT KNOWING?

Um, you're not a winner or runner-up in the Igor Look-Alike contests I hope?
And you didn't go on to be a cosmetic surgeon either? (sound-proof the rooms did you?) *sigh* for some reason, I keep getting the same answers... practice....practice....practice..... hm...maybe if I just ask one more person.... |
